If 50 Is The New 30…
Love word cloudWe have all heard that 50 is the new 30 and 40 is the new 20. That would make 30 the new 10, which with so many young adults returning to the roost, can easily be believed.

Is 65 The New 45?
On the flip side, a recent New York Times article highlighted the increasing incidence of STDs in people age 65 and over. That just may make 65 new 45. You would think by this age a little reason and condom use wouldn’t go amiss but I digress- more on that later.

Sending A Saucy Message
I am ok with these new age determinations in our era of better health care and people living longer healthier lives. Better yet, I am thrilled to hear that for the most part, sex is remaining an important part of our lives as we age. On this Valentine’s Day, these saucy seniors are sending a strong message that love and sex, whether they go together in a particular situation or are “separates”  as we say in the clothing industry, does not have to take a back seat (pun intended) as we get older.  Who knew that an active sex life at this time of life was more the rule than the norm? More power to them and to us.

happy valentines day handsFor me, someone who found love relatively later in life, this Valentine’s Day is a celebration of where I have been as a person and as part of a couple, the changes both of us have undergone over the last 14 years since we met and a look at what the future may hold.  It is also a time to contemplate that getting older (I’m 47 and my husband is 60) could very well mean making some accommodations or seeking different solutions to stay in the game as we age. Clearly it no longer means the end of romance and sex.

Inner Intimates’ Vaginal Renewal Complex is a great example of a product that helps bridge the gap between aging and desire. VRC helps us women keep our lady parts healthy and supple and ready for romance. As a friend of founder Olga Cohen, I am privy to the joy she feels when a customer (and/or the customer’s husband) contacts her to tell her that they are finally able to enjoy sex and intimacy after too much time without it due to vaginal pain and discomfort due to dryness. How great that these debilitating issues can be resolved in such an all- natural and holistic fashion; how we celebrate these women!

in loveTurning Up The Heat
Another problem associated with aging with a potential impact in the bedroom are night sweats and hot flashes. Women with night sweats are not only looking for clothing that will soak up their night sweats and hot flashes but are also looking for that same garment to look good on them and make them feel pretty. These women are feeling “hot” due to hot flashes but also want to look “hot” in the bedroom. Why should we have to give up looking good in order to stay dry?  Dry Babe Absorbent Sleepwear for “hot” mamas was created for these doubly “hot” women and works like a dream.

These are just two of many solutions that will bridge any gap between changes due to age and desire. Each adds a spark to Valentine’s Day and every day thereafter.  As we all know, it is important to our overall health and wellbeing to keep the fires burning – as long as we do it safely.

Our seniors came of age in a less sexually confusing time. It was pretty simple – as seen recently on an episode of All In The Family In which Edith runs into high school friends (Bummy Fessler and his wife Dolores) at the market and invites the couple over for dinner. When they were alone in the kitchen

The One Who Didn’t
Dolores, reminiscing with Edith says “There were two kinds of girls. Those that did and those that didn’t. I was a girl who did.” To which Edith says into her chest, “I was one who didn’t.”

Besides serial multiple partners being outside the norm, our seniors also came of age pre HIV and AIDS and certainly a pregnancy scare is not in the cards.  It is difficult enough to get younger people who know all about these things to wear a condom, much less our seniors. Chlamydia, herpes, and syphilis can do great damage at any age and are so easy to prevent.  With so many seniors contracting STD’s it is becoming an epidemic making it that more likely that your luck could run out.

Now a last word on this issue:  As a daughter of parents in this age category, for selfish reasons I hope our seniors will take this advice seriously. After all, no one wants to hear that their mom or dad got the clap – TMI on a major scale J.
